Constructive dialogue in the workplace

EDF's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Agreement, signed in January 2005, has long been the cornerstone of our commitment to consultation and employee dialogue. It is also at the heart of our overall commitment to social responsibility.
20 collective agreements were signed at EDF in 2008: a figure which reflects the importance of social dialogue.

The Group

Each Group company has long-standing consultative committees, each of which established the detailed location-specific fulfillment of the CSR. An implementation report summarizing their work is presented each year to the Committee for Dialogue on Corporate Social Responsibility.

The European Works Council (Comité d'entreprise européen - CEE), created in 2001, provides a forum for instructive dialogue and debate on the Group's economic, financial, and employment strategies.

The Council's working groups have contributed to the definition to shared health and safety principles Groupwide.

In France

In France, broad social consultation is carried out through the association of the Electricity and Gas Industries (Industries Electriques et Gazières - IEG).

Within EDF, dialogue and consultation with employees is handled through several mechanisms, including the Works Council and employee representative bodies. These have been operating under the jurisdiction of ordinary courts since 2007.

The vigor of our consultative program is reflected by high workforce commitment rates: 75% participation in workplace elections. In 2008 alone we negotiated more than 20 collective agreements.

The Workplace Dialogue Agenda

Created in 2004 and renewed every three years, the Workplace Dialogue Agenda shows the desire for dialogue and consultation shared by EDF and employees. It facilitates discussion and negotiation between management and union organisations over a range of issues including: new prospects for professional development; overall remuneration; adjustments to working hours; and quality of life in the workplace.
